JD Power is known in the US for publishing each year a quality-study ranking the different car makes sold in the US. The results are expected with fear in one's heart as the ranking serves as reference for future sales and is followed by consumers but also by manufacturers and dealers.

The 2017 results for the quality study have been published in June and for the second straight year the winner is Kia, second is Genesis (first appearance this year). Porsche is ranked third this year after having trusted the first place in 2015 and 2014.

In order to be more precise, we just wanted to give a few comments on how J. D Power is performing its study. A sample of 80'000 owners of new cars is considered in the first 90 days of ownership, they are asked about the problems they may have encountered with their new car and a ranking is established considering the problems per 100 vehicles. We would also mention that the problem encountered could also be linked to aspects as the design, or points or functions that may be difficult to use or confusing. In 2017, some of the most problematic areas were infotainment and electronic driver aids. According to J. D. Power, 2017 new car quality is the highest it’s ever been.

Quality in the US has a lot to do with loyalty rates, so the J. D Power quality study is really important.
