That could be a sci-fi story coming from a futurist author imagination: a rapid transportation system that could bring you from a point to another above the city streets.

That is the project currently developing by the California-based company skyTran, with the support of Israel Aerospace Industry, which will hopefully soon revolutionise the transport system. A two-place pod would transport people thanks to the energy-efficient magnetic levitation, above the streets. In other terms, flying across the road would be soon possible.

“We are proud to be part of this exciting moment in transportation history and to host the first skyTran system in our grounds.” Says Yossi Melamed, from IAI. The first demonstration system is expected to be compeleted during the fourth quarter 2015.

On the long- run, after having completed development, test and checking period, the two companies would like to construct the first commercial skyTran in Tel-Aviv, but it is also considering other regions in the world. France and India are expected to be among the first.

Furthermore, an “Uber-like” smartphone application could at the same time revolutionise on-demand individuals’ mobility.
